Fort Monroe National Monument (FMNM) Superintendent Kirsten Talken-Spaulding talks about how we got a national monument, emphasizing the involvement of citizens in the process. On January 9, 2012 the superintendent of recently created FMNM spoke to a full house at the Hampton History Museum. She had praise for the work of Citizens for a Fort Monroe National Park (CFMNP). The continued effort of CFMNP and the unity among the people and government officials worked to speed up the process that normally would have taken years.
